What to Wear ~ May

I’m loving these fun, bright colors for May. They would look fantastic just as they are but would also translate beautifully into black and white, or a sun-drenched/muted look.  Perfect colors for a walk through the fields or a stroll along the beach!

The Gallery Canvas

The Gallery Canvas; a wonderful way to display your favorite images from our session. These two gorgeous 16×20 wraps arrived to me recently and I just had to photograph them before I lovingly wrapped them back up and sent them on their way; bound for their new home on the East Coast.

What to Wear ~ April

It’s a question that comes up with just about every time I book a session; from newborn portraits to families, it can be tricky to know what to wear.

Generally, I recommend wearing clothes that you would normally wear; that are “you”, and that you feel comfortable in. I’m not a big fan of the freshly ironed, buttoned up, “I’m only wearing this because I have to” look (unless of course you love wearing freshly-ironed button-up shirts!).   If you or your child are wearing clothes that are comfortable, it will be reflected in the look as well as the feel of your portraits.

I’m going to be posting a monthly “what to wear”, a great visual for helping choose great outifts for your portraits.  Here is my post for April – I love these colors, they’d be gorgeous against the fresh greens of spring and are both bright and soft at the same time. I love the way that the colors compliment each other and yet no one is wearing exactly the same thing.

I’m always happy to help in the “what to wear” decision making,  a pre-session clothing consultation can make the decisions easy and fun.

New

Botanicals…not my usual subjects I know, but with the arrival of spring this year, I’ve found myself very drawn to all of the world coming into bloom around me. I decided to take some time to try and capture some of what this wonderful season has to offer; freshness, renewal, awakening.  A reminder that after the quiet slumber of winter, there is new life waiting…

I hope you’ll step outside and take a look around.  Newness really is amazing…

Three Rascals

I’m excited about the great response I’ve had to my spring session special. I’m looking forward to seeing some familiar as well as some new faces in the coming months!

Well, we’ve just come off of two weeks of spring break here at the Stotlar’s and, as usual, I had my camera handy to photograph my own kids. They’re quite used to seeing me toting my camera around and know it’s likely that they’re going to be asked to participate in a shoot or two. Sometimes they’re cooperative (sometimes NOT!!) and I’m always happy to have three subjects around to try new techniques on.   W, my oldest, is really starting to like being photographed and likes to remind me to make him “look cool”; J, my middle-child loves to show off his “moves”, and is rarely photographed without at least one image including his signature “thumbs up”.  WA, our youngest, is going through a stage where 99.9% of the time, she absolutely REFUSES to look at me if I have the camera up to my face!  They’ve gone “location scouting” with me so many times that every now and again, while we’re out and about in the car, I hear a “hey mom, check out that great field!!” from the backseat…clearly the children of a location photographer!

It’s so much fun to capture their personalities and I so appreciate when my friends and clients trust in me to capture their children.  Today, I’m happy to share my three rascals with all of you.

It’s a Spring Thing

I’m going to admit it, I have spring fever…big time! The sun has been out, the temperatures have been up and this morning…birds singing!! It has me feeling refreshed, revived, inspired, and renewed.

I want to share some of that fantastic feeling with you so I’m offering a great spring deal! Schedule your spring session (March through May) by March 31st and you’ll get a $150 session for only $100.   Portraits make a perfect gift for Mother’s Day and mild temperatures paired with warm spring light make it a wonderful time to get back to my favorite outdoor locations.

So spread the word, book your sessions, and share this spring fever with me!

I always like to post with images so please enjoy these from some of my favorite spring sessions of 2009…
